Tattoo lessons

I love, love tattoos, but I think it would be fun, interesting and cheap to get me a kit tottoo.?

What is your input? My partner and I have always wanted a tattoo and we are seriously considering it. My bf is a great artist, but I suck. I should take lessons from professional design or should selftaught with your help? If you have any helpful tips, that would be fantastic. Basically I know I want to become a Tattoo artist, but it is impossible? I'm in Australia.
