Words of advice for a tattoo virgin?

I'm starting my first moko (traditional Maori tattoo) as soon as I think I'm ready for it now. Any words of advice on how to deal with it and take care of it once it is done by someone who has never been covered before? Also - any comments about the pain factor and how to deal with it (I'm getting on my shoulder and arm) - I hear a Coke and a bar and live is good to lay off the alcohol? Thoughts & comments appreciated. Chur Chur.

avoid alcohol, caffeine and blood thinning medication - all these things make you bleed more, which is not good for the artist and not good for the tattoo (usually more blood = more scabbing) You're having it done the traditional way? or just a traditional tattoo in a modern salon? Painwise anyway, its easier just to relax and allow the artist to stop it. It is painful but not unbearable, more if you stay relaxed the body can use your endorphins slowly through the process to maintain a natural pain killer stimulated. If you get nervous and rush your system with adrenaline, you will use the reserves of your body before the tattoo is over with. Feels like a sunburn being scratched by a kitten - Uncomfortable but tolerable. The care of him, then what the artist says. They are usually the person you have to go back for help, and following his advice they can help more firsthand knowledge. (If you'd like to read care tattoo alt to get some knowledge to himself than to give another artist / recommend to their clients I have a care sheet on my 360 blog, and other artists more carefully their information in on your site - no one does the same, and everyone has reasons for how they recommend things. Research and find what you think your body would be comfortable with)
