Boxing tattoos

The technique is not the secret of painting. Not from tissues, brushes, sponges, spatulas, swabs or razor blades along with their brushes artist. Nor is it about "putting a little blue here." All these have a place in our bag of tricks drawing and painting ... but the real secret of making the image composition.
Underlying all works of art (at all levels, from amateur level good for great photos) is the structure.
The first day of my English Literature class at my university of art, the teacher played "Bolero", an orchestral work by Maurice Ravel and asked what it was. The class the organizing theme. In addition to Ravel have skills in melody and musicality, he was a composer.
Listeners like what they hear in "Bolero". Some listeners have musical training and understanding at all levels, including the understanding of the underlying structure. Untrained listeners as they hear and, although they may not know they like "Bolero" because it is composed. Is why it is performed repeatedly in symphony halls. That's why the ballet was created for dancing the incremental volume and intensity until the thunderous climax ending "Bolero". My English teacher taught me about the composition of art using the "Bolero" as an example.
Paintings are underlying principles that organize the elements of the image in order to bring the viewer's gaze in and around the image in a interesting and organize the elements into a cohesive whole.
There are almost endless ways to structure an image. Some are obvious, like a mother bending more and protect a child sleeping or resting horizontally. Another obvious composition is the sum of opposite angles of two fighters in a boxing match.
Some of the principles of composition:
 • Beauty is organized variety.
 • Variety equal interest.
 • An accurate picture of a dominant element, a sub-dominant and subordinate elements arranged in interesting relationships. This creates for the viewer so that you, the painter, can distract the viewer with an array of images varied and therefore interesting.
 • The dominant element can be made dominant by a position somewhat central, the size of dominance or dominance of interest and, through the complexity of the dominant element or its physical domain. For example, the eye of an observer is drawn to a human face.
 • These elements should be varied in size and shape of maximum interest.
 • The viewer must have a path to the evidence is interesting.
 • Thumbnails ... small sketches ... can organize your image before entering in detail.
 • The negative areas (spaces between objects) are as important as the objects.
 • The center of the photo is the most powerful ... not the exact center of ... but the area around the center is where the dominant element, is gaining momentum.
 • The tension between two elements adds interest (as the pressure of the opposition of the fighters mentioned above).
 • Division Horizontal suggests calmness.
 • Divisions should not be the same as it would create a flat image.
 • In a painting of a sky, mountain and valley, say you want the sky to dominate. You would heaven ½ the height of the screen (3/6ths). But a linear (3-2-1) stacking would be boring. 3-1-2 is more interesting. Then heaven 3, Saw 1 and 2 flat valley.
Art courses, classes, videos and TV shows that teach technique, but do not address the composition loses the key to making good pictures.
To be sure, an understanding of technique, color theory, shape, pattern, perspective and proportion need to be studied and developed, but they should serve in an underlying structure.
Composition is the secret of painting.
